Data Virtualization has gone mainstream! It has been adopted as a critical information management capability at major companies worldwide and leading SI firms. The need is driven by business users, BI analysts and application developers wanting timely and agile data access to a broad array of enterprise data assets, and new sources like Cloud, Big Data, NoSQL, Web and Social Media. Data Virtualization provides the ability to integrate disparate sources and present them as Linked Data Services for both BI and operational use.
This session covers Data Virtualization concepts, technology, business use cases, and best practices for success. We start with a focus on “Agile BI” which is one of the top use cases for DV which improves on traditional data warehousing and a waterfall approach to designing business intelligence systems. We will discuss various BI use cases and how DV helps reduce time to market and cost while meeting high performance requirements. Then we will see how companies have expanded Data Virtualization to the enterprise level to enable a unified data layer that can deliver information as dynamic linked data services in a business-driven data architecture that provides unified data access, agile data provisioning, and improved governance through the data virtualization layer. Linked Data Services enable an integrated view of all enterprise data assets and enables users to discover, search, browse and query using SQL, fully RESTful or SOAP web services, widgets/portlets and even semantic search / queries.
